Quick wins: Trash, Downloads, and large files

Start with the moves that take minutes and free the most obvious space. The single most common mistake is deleting files without emptying the Trash — everything you "delete" in Finder still occupies disk space until the Trash is emptied, so gigabytes of freed space can be sitting one click away.

The Downloads folder is the next classic offender. Installers (.dmg and .pkg files), zip archives you already extracted, and email attachments you saved once and forgot are pure dead weight. A disk image is useless the moment the app inside it is installed, yet Downloads folders routinely hold 10-30 GB of them.
