Swipewipe made swiping the star. Its core loop is Tinder-style triage: photos come up one at a time, grouped by month, and you swipe left to delete or right to keep, with streaks, an On This Day feed, and a home-screen widget to keep you coming back. Its US App Store listing also mentions clearing similar photos, blurry shots, and old screenshots. It is free to download with ads, and the full experience is unlocked by Swipewipe+ subscriptions — predominantly weekly plans.

The weekly-subscription trap, explained

Before comparing features, it is worth understanding the economics of this app category, because they shape everything. Photo cleanup is an occasional job: most people do a big cleanup once, then touch the app a few times a year. That usage pattern is a terrible fit for recurring billing — so many cleaner apps compensate with the most aggressive billing cycle the App Store allows: the weekly subscription.

The arithmetic deserves a moment of attention. Swipewipe's US listing, as of July 2026, shows Swipewipe+ weekly plans at several price points from $3.99 up to $9.99 per week, alongside a $29.99 one-year premium option. A $9.99 weekly plan left running costs over $500 a year; even the cheapest weekly tier compounds to more than $200. To be fair to Swipewipe, the yearly option is reasonably priced and the free tier remains usable with ads — but the weekly default is the pattern to watch for, and it is common across the whole category, not unique to any one app.

This is exactly the trap the other two apps position themselves against. Clever Cleaner opts out of monetization entirely. Photo Slim charges once: you can run the full scan for free, see precisely what $14.99 would unlock, pay it a single time, and never see a renewal charge. If you have ever forgotten to cancel a trial, the difference between "weekly until cancelled" and "once, ever" is not a detail — it is the whole decision.

Feature depth: where each app actually wins
